Discovering a New Hobby: A Memorable Day on the Golf Course

I knew about golf but had never really watched or played it. With my fellow residents, along with Alix and her mum, I had the opportunity to learn more about the game and enjoy a fun day together

On Monday 2nd March 2026, the residents and I visited a golf park at Achimota, and it turned out to be one of the most exciting experiences I have ever had. I was especially happy because it was my first time playing golf. Everyone was eager to learn, and the mood was a happy one among the residents. Everyone was smiling, laughing and we enjoyed the time together.

Madam Anima, Sir Felix, and two professional coaches from the golf park guided us through the basics of the game. First they told us the rules of the game which was a bit difficult to understand but we listened and tried our best to. There was a lot of golf language which we had never heard before but was interesting to hear.

Then they showed us how to hold the golf club correctly, how to position our bodies, and how to focus on the ball before taking a shot. Among everything I learned, I enjoyed hitting the ball the most. Although I found it a bit challenging at first, it was also very fun. After some time, I became tired, and my hands and palms began to hurt, which caused me to miss the ball a few times.

  • This was my first time trying golf and I would never forget how fun it was. I hope to be back soon

In the middle of the day, we took a break for lunch. There was a wide variety of food available, including rice and tilapia which I have not had in years. However, I chose to eat french fries with goat meat. The meal was very delicious, and I truly enjoyed it. The lunch break gave me the energy I needed to continue the day’s activities. I was determined to make a hole in one.

By 4:00 p.m., the day had come to an end. Although I felt tired and a bit stressed, I was still very excited about the entire experience. I learned that it is important to dress in sporty clothing when playing golf. I also learned that one should not walk around when others are playing, as this can be dangerous. Additionally, it is unsafe to stand beside or behind someone who is about to hit the ball.

What made the experience even more memorable was the support from the other residents. We encouraged one another throughout the practice, and there was no fighting or arguing. Instead, we worked together and enjoyed the game as a team.

Overall, this was one of the best experiences I have ever had, and I would gladly participate in another golf session if given the opportunity.
