Dr. Karen Cyrus is a music educator, researcher, and musician with a PhD in Ethnomusicology from York University and an LRSM in piano teaching. A graduate of UWI and Mico Teachers College, she has decades of experience in music ministry as a pianist, choir director, and accompanist, and has authored music education textbooks such as Caribbean Integrated Music and Music for Big Ants and Little Ants. Her research explores Jamaican contemporary Christian music and music education, including creating a database of 628 hymns (Sing the Hymns: Exploring Songs of Our Faith) and contributing to the Mapping Ontario’s Black Archive project as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Toronto Metropolitan University.
